While on Keto One Gets Drunk Faster

Nowadays, almost everyone knows about the low-carb, moderate-protein, and high-fat diet plan called the ketogenic diet. The idea behind the keto diet is to drastically reduce the intake of carbohydrates (up to 20-50 grams per day) in the body and replace them with fats. It’s a diet plan that puts your body into ketosis, a state in which your body burns fat for energy instead of carbohydrates. It may sound like an ideal food plan. Many people follow this diet as it helps them to reduce weight very quickly.

Although the keto diet appears very tempting, you can eat as much fat as you want, and as much bacon as you want. However, it does have side effects, from foul breath to constipation, limited food choices to a lack of nutrition. Another drawback is that you get drunk very fast. Even a single drink per night can cause problems if you follow the keto diet plan.

Let’s see why this happens:

During ketosis, your body’s glycogen level drops, which means it can’t absorb much alcohol and you become drunk faster. When you eat carbs, your glycogen stores are filled. We can say that many substances in your blood and body can absorb alcohol. Therefore, the rate at which you get drunk slows down as compared to when you are on the keto diet.

What to do:

There is still a way to enjoy occasional drinking while on the keto diet.

Never drink on an empty stomach.

Eat low-carb vegetables and fruits.

Stay hydrated. Drink one glass of water after every drink.

Never have more than one drink per hour.

Keto alcohols

Some alcohols are considered a rich source of carbs, whereas some are considered keto-friendly drinks. When we talk about alcoholic drinks that won’t impact ketosis, all alcohols are not made equal.

Wine contains very few carbs as compared to beer. While in ketosis, wine is a better choice than beer. Also, pure spirits like whiskey, brandy, gin, tequila, and vodka contain zero carbs, but keep an eye on the sugar content.
