I’m 45. Having been obese for my whole life I decided to try on keto. It’s been three days since I’ve started keto. Almost I’ve gone without rice, noodles, and bread. I had not-so-great days. I woke up with hangover feelings of headache, nausea, vomiting, and dizziness. My heart is beating so rapidly, that even in the resting phase my bpm is shooting to 90-95. These all symptoms make me feel worried. If these all are because of the keto diet which I have recently started.
Oh yes! You are absolutely right, some people may experience symptoms when they embark on the keto diet. The keto diet, a low-carb and high-fat-oriented diet, puts your body into a natural metabolic state called ketosis, in which the body starts burning fat instead of glucose to obtain energy. Though it’s safe for many people, it is associated with many unpleasant side effects, known as keto flu.
Signs of the keto flu may appear within a few days of starting the keto diet, and our body may need some time to get used to it. However, these symptoms are temporary and may disappear within a few days, still for some people the transition is difficult. The common symptoms of the keto flu are:
- Headache
- Nausea
- Vomiting
- Muscular cramps
- Diarrhea
- Constipation
- Brain fog
- Irritability
- Sleeping apnea
- Food craving
- Dizziness
Though the keto flu symptoms are temporary but to avoid the miserable effects keep yourself well hydrated, and avoid strenuous exercising while having keto flu symptoms.
