Do you find Binge Eating to be your Source of Comfort?

Having your favourite comfort junk meal once or twice is fine, but if you are finding yourself ordering in that McD meal every other day, then you, my friend, might be facing some serious problems.

Are you familiar with the term “Binge Eating Disorder” or BED? It is used to describe a mental health condition where the person loses control over their meal consumption. They tend to crave more and more food and eventually develop a situation of compulsive overeating. Note that this behaviour is usually caused by a  set of emotional triggers like loneliness and isolation, or stress at work, or deep depression and anxiety. Past trauma or low self esteem also often contributes to this. It varies from person to person and occasional overeating does not always equate to BED. But if it is reaching the point of obesity and diabetes, it is time to consult a therapist.

BED is an extremely multi-faceted problem with triggers that could be literally anything that contributed to a repressed traumatic memory. So, if you know someone who might be unaware of their depleting mental health, reach out to them and let them know you will be there for them. And, if it is you, then know there is nothing unfixable about this situation. Just seek professional help and support that specialises in eating disorders, and do not give up on yourself.
